Marin 911: Man roots in trash; says he looking for his ‘underground base’

SAUSALITO

Underground Lair: A homeless man was stopped on Bee Street for rummaging through the trash. He said he wasn’t rummaging for trash but looking for his “underground base.” Police told him to stop rummaging through the trash.

Sleeper: A homeless man slept on the sidewalk by the picnic tables on Litho Street on Sept. 1. Police talked to the man and offered him county services. He declined.

Mental: A man seen ripping up plants on Bridgeway appeared to be drunk. Police responded, but the homeless man was gone on arrival. 

Lyft Driver: A woman on Pine Street told police she was dropped off at her home on Pine Street, but the driver asked her weird questions like, “what time is your boyfriend coming home?” He then circled the house three times. Police kept an eye on her and her residence.

Walking Stick: A man with a walking stick walked along Bridgeway looking like he was “on a trip.” Police know the man and determined he was capable of taking care of himself. 

SAN RAFAEL

Knife Man: A San Rafael man was arrested after a store clerk was assaulted with a knife. Store video helped identify the man. Police arrested Christian Daniel Giron, 29, a probationer.

Fast Chase: San Rafael Police arrested a person who they say led them on a 100 mph chase on Highway 101. Two police cars were rammed in the process. 

Slow Chase: A Kentfield man was arrested after a disturbance on Mission Avenue. When police attempted to talk to a man in the area, he led police on a slow chase through town. He was finally stopped and arrested on reckless evasion and driving on an expired registration. The man arrested was identified by police as Stefan Joseph Ascierto, 50.

MILL VALLEY

Tombstone Man: A man described as 40-ish and balding came into the school library on Miller Avenue and handed the clerk a note that said “planner please – I thought you needed to see my tombstone.” The man then ran out to the football field and stared at the cheerleaders. Police are investigating.

Near Accident: A citizen reported that the driver of a white SUV on Aug. 23 ran a stop sign and nearly hit a pedestrian. The citizen told police that the intersection of Sycamore Avenue and La Goma Street is an accident waiting to happen.

Starbucks: A man walked into the Starbucks next to Safeway on Camino Alto. He found no one there. It was closed with the door open. Police had to make a few calls to find the regional manager to come and secure the store.

Yeller: A man yelling racial slurs walked down a darkened Lovell Avenue on Aug. 25. A resident called police. Service provided. 

Welfare Check: A woman sat along the side of the road on Ashford Avenue, holding a cop of hot coffee and talking to herself. Police checked her welfare and determine she was fine.

Fraud: Police received a call from the son of a woman. He said he feared his mom’s caregiver was making purchases in a pawn shop ushing his mom’s credit card. Police investigating.

Keyed: A citizen told police that her car was “keyed” in the parking lot of Safeway or Whole Foods. She didn’t know which one.

NOVATO

DUI Checkpoint: A DUI checkpoint was set up Friday, Sept. 2, at South Novato Blvd and Sunset Parkway. 339 vehicles were screened. Two people were arrested and nine others were cited.
