Marin 911: Old man rescued from his socks

April 17, 2023 by Marin 1 Comment

MILL VALLEY

Sock Rescue: A man with mobility issues called the police because his nurse put “extra” socks on him and now that she’s gone he can’t get the damn socks off. Police were unable to reach the caregiver, so Mill Valley’s finest did what needed to be done – they helped the old man get his socks off.

This Stinks: A homeless woman has been a problem in front of a business on Miller Avenue for a long time, but calls to the police do not stop her from coming back again and again. This time the woman peed and pooped near the business and it stinks. The business was unable to provide pictures of the woman defecating. Police gave advice for future incidents.

Crypto: A woman called police because her husband sent $94,000 to a crypto currency investment place, which they now believe was a total and complete scam. They don’t pick up the phone and calls go straight to voicemail. Police investigating.

Couch Man: A Mill Valley man woke up to find what appeared to be a homeless man with a long white beard sleeping on his downstairs couch. Police called. The bearded sleeper awoke and moved along.

Ticket: A woman on Nelson Avenue reported a car illegally parked. Cops issued a ticket. When the driver came back, he went to the woman’s house and yelled at her for reporting him. She did not answer the door and reported the incident to the police.

Tent: A vagrant set up a tent blocking the sidewall of a supermarket. Police told the citizen caller that it was not a violation.

Evicted: A man called police to let them know that he had been evicted from Tiburon and was now living in Hauke Park. He also said that he wanted the “psychic attacks to stop.”

Runaway: An 11-year-old girl ran away from her mom at an eyebrow waxing place. She called police from her Apple watch and said he was afraid of the pain and now her mom would be mean to her. Police located the runaway and reunited with mother.

Church Parking Lot: People at the church on Camino Alto called police because routinely they see evidence of people “burning rubber” and “doing donuts” in the parking lot. Extra patrols will be sent to watch out for the reckless driving.

Fentanyl:  On April 7 at just before midnight, a Mill Valley graveyard officer located an occupied vehicle underneath the Richardson Bay Bridge. Further investigation found people inside a van with suspected fentanyl, heroin and methamphetamine.

E-Bikes: As more and more teens ride E-Bikes, you can help them learn more about the rules of the road, E-Bike handling, and emergency maneuvering skills through the Marin County Bicycle Coalition.  If your teen is in grades 6-8, you can sign them up for the hands-on E-Bike safety course on April 26, from 2:15-4:15 at the Mill Valley Middle School.  The cost is $100, and scholarships are available.  No student will be turned away.  To sign up for the class, reach out to zoe@marinbike.org.

Stuck on Red: The traffic light on Camino Alto and Blithedale was stuck on red. Police assisted in road safety until it could be repaired.

SAN RAFAEL

Stalker: San Rafael Police Detectives arrested Jason Colby Carpenter, a 46-year-old Benicia resident, following a series of stalking incidents.  When Carpenter was arrested, a search warrant was served at his residence, where detectives located firearms and ammunition that were believed to be tied to one of Carpenter’s threats toward the victim.  Carpenter was booked into the Marin County Jail for felony stalking, where he is being held in lieu of $300,000 bail.

Starting in early February 2023, Carpenter had been stalking a woman in San Rafael who he had a brief dating relationship with.  Carpenter went to the victim’s residence and left numerous unwanted letters and items at her front door.

Carpenter’s threatening stalking behavior escalated during each occurrence.  On one of the repeated incidents at the victim’s house, Carpenter glued the lock to the front door, making it unusable.

In another occurrence, Carpenter broke into the victim’s vehicle, taking personal documents.  He later contacted the victim and told her she had left her documents at his residence, which the victim had never been to.  Carpenter then sent photographs of the documents to the victim, which matched those stolen from her car.

Carpenter further escalated in threatening behavior after he was accused of making a threat toward the victim that he had a gun.

Carpenter also called SRPD Dispatch, trying to pose as an anonymous caller reporting drug activity at the victim’s residence.   It appeared that Carpenter was trying to use the fake call in an attempt to use officers to further his efforts to harass and intimidate.

On April 11, SRPD Detectives and the Marin County Sheriff’s Office Special Investigations Unit (SIU) arrested Jason Carpenter for felony stalking while leaving his residence in Benicia, California.  Detectives served a search warrant for Carpenter’s residence, where numerous items were seized, including four firearms and numerous varieties of ammunition.

Carpenter was booked into the Marin County Jail for felony stalking.  To further protect the victim and due to the seriousness of this case, SRPD detectives obtained a bail enhancement where Carpenter’s bail was set at $300,000.

SAUSALITO

Bus Crying: A man who appeared to be in an altered state wept on the bus and police had to be called. Fellow passengers asked him how they could help. He just wept. Police identified the man as having an outstanding warrant. Arrest followed.

Gone: A person left a 9th generation iPad on the top of a car and drove from Mill Valley to Sausalito. No idea where it fell off.

Block Party: A neighbor called the cops on an upcoming “block party” because she doesn’t think the organizer has a permit (although he says he does) and the organizer didn’t ask for her permission to hold a block party. The last time a block party was held, she told police, amplified music was played. Police left a voice mail with the organizer.

Gas Prices: A city vehicle on April 5 had its gasoline line cut and the gas siphoned out.

Fight: A man was ejected from a local bar and then stood outside trying to pick fights. H was described as having an Irish accent. Gone when police arrived.

MARIN COUNTY SHERIFF

Stolen: Last week a deputy located a vehicle traveling southbound on US 101 with expired registration. The deputy conducted an enforcement stop and contacted three occupants. Through the investigation, the deputy developed cause to search the vehicle and located approximately $3,100 of stolen property stolen from retail stores throughout the Bay Area along with illegal narcotics. All three individuals were arrested for multiple charges and booked into the Marin County Jail

Drug Arrest: Earlier this year, the Sheriff’s Department  Specialized Investigative Unit (SIU) began receiving reports of drugs being sold from an RV parked on Reed Boulevard in unincorporated Mill Valley.  As the case developed, the detectives obtained a search warrant for the RV and conducted the search last week.  Detectives found methamphetamine, ammunition, and a homemade “zip” gun. Arrested was Darrell Anderson, 60, of Mill Valley.  Anderson was booked in the Marin County Jail. He posted bail and is now out. The District Attorney now has the case.

NOVATO

Arrest: Police arrested a man suspected of burglarizing a home on April 9. The suspect was interrupted in the act, police said. Travis Emory Speck, 23, was subsequently taken into custody. Theft: A citizen reported seeing a stolen bike for sale online and called police. Police responded. The bike was taken two months ago in Sonoma. Police seized the bike from a probationer (identified as Erik Brandon Diaz, 20, of Novato). He was arrested and booked on charges of theft and selling drugs.
