Marin 911: Police arrest Benicia man accused of stalking San Rafael woman

April 13, 2023 by Marin Leave a Comment

SAN RAFAEL

Stalker: San Rafael Police Detectives arrested Jason Colby Carpenter, a 46-year-old Benicia resident, following a series of stalking incidents.  When Carpenter was arrested, a search warrant was served at his residence, where detectives located firearms and ammunition that were believed to be tied to one of Carpenter’s threats toward the victim.  Carpenter was booked into the Marin County Jail for felony stalking, where he is being held in lieu of $300,000 bail.

Starting in early February 2023, Carpenter had been stalking a woman in San Rafael who he had a brief dating relationship with.  Carpenter went to the victim’s residence and left numerous unwanted letters and items at her front door.

Carpenter’s threatening stalking behavior escalated during each occurrence.  On one of the repeated incidents at the victim’s house, Carpenter glued the lock to the front door, making it unusable.

In another occurrence, Carpenter broke into the victim’s vehicle, taking personal documents.  He later contacted the victim and told her she had left her documents at his residence, which the victim had never been to.  Carpenter then sent photographs of the documents to the victim, which matched those stolen from her car.

Carpenter further escalated in threatening behavior after he was accused of making a threat toward the victim that he had a gun.

Carpenter also called SRPD Dispatch, trying to pose as an anonymous caller reporting drug activity at the victim’s residence.   It appeared that Carpenter was trying to use the fake call in an attempt to use officers to further his efforts to harass and intimidate.

On April 11, SRPD Detectives and the Marin County Sheriff’s Office Special Investigations Unit (SIU) arrested Jason Carpenter for felony stalking while leaving his residence in Benicia, California.  Detectives served a search warrant for Carpenter’s residence, where numerous items were seized, including four firearms and numerous varieties of ammunition.

Carpenter was booked into the Marin County Jail for felony stalking.  To further protect the victim and due to the seriousness of this case, SRPD detectives obtained a bail enhancement where Carpenter’s bail was set at $300,000.
