Marin 911: Sex trafficking at Novato hotel; homeless misbehavior spikes in Sausalito

September 26, 2022 by Marin Leave a Comment

During Child Passenger Safety Week (or any other week, for that matter) Novato Police will support parents and caregivers with questions regarding the installation of child safety seats. California law requires all children under 2 years old to ride in a rear-facing car seat, unless the child is 40 or more pounds or is 40 or more inches tall. Parents are encouraged to keep your child in rear- and forward-facing seats as long as possible. Children 8 and older, who are at least 4 feet, 9 inches in height, may ride in the back seat of a vehicle in a properly fitted safety belt. For more information, contact Sgt. Reza Pourfarhani at Mpourfarhani@novato.org or 415-897-4361.

NOVATO

Sex Trafficking: On Sept. 14, the Novato Police Department partnered with the San Rafael Police Department and the Northern California Regional Intelligence Center – NCRIC to conduct an operation focused on sex trafficking of juveniles in Marin County.  Prior to this operation, subject matter experts from the San Rafael Police Department provided human trafficking training to Novato Police Department Detectives.

Following training, detectives from all three agencies participated in a cooperative Human Trafficking enforcement operation at a hotel in Novato. The objectives were to locate and assist victims of Human Trafficking, apprehend individuals attempting to pay juveniles for sexual acts, and apprehend individuals that were pimping and/or pandering.

Detectives arrested a 44-year-old San Rafael man that arrived at the hotel after agreeing to pay for sex with a kid.  The male was booked into Marin County Jail for felony soliciting a minor for a lewd purpose.

Detectives contacted a 51-year-old Novato man who arrived at the hotel intending to pay for sexual acts with an adult. When the male arrived at the hotel, he was questioned and issued a misdemeanor citation for soliciting prostitution.

A 31-year-old San Rafael man made arrangements to exchange money for sex with a juvenile. When he arrived at the hotel he was placed under arrest and booked for felony soliciting a minor for a lewd purpose.

Detectives identified a potential minor posting sexual ads promoting herself. After agreeing to participate in prostitution, the 20-year-old woman from San Pablo arrived at the hotel with an unidentified male driver. The male fled the scene in a reckless manner when confronted by investigators. Detectives are conducting follow up investigation to identify the male driver in connection with aiding in the commission of prostitution. The female was provided with resources and released.

A 29-year-old San Rafael man agreed to pay for sex with a minor and arrived at the hotel. He was arrested and booked into Marin County Jail for felony soliciting a minor for a lewd act.

The Novato Police Department, San Rafael Police Department, and NCRIC would like to remind victims of human trafficking that there are resources available. If you or someone you know is a victim of human trafficking, please call your local police department or The National Human Trafficking Hotline at 888-373-7888.
