Not Cool: A community member on Kerner Boulevard waved one of our officers over to an SUV that had two dogs locked in the car with the windows up. The dogs were clearly hot and panting. The officer called for Marin Humane Society and was preparing to break out the window when the owner of the car returned. The owner was educated about the dangers of leaving animals in a car. Temperatures in cars can be 30 to 50 degrees warmer than the outside temperature. Studies have shown that when it’s 70 degrees in a car, it can turn to 104 degrees inside the car after just 30 minutes. The owner was issued a citation and the dogs were removed from the car. The dogs appeared to be in good health and did not need any further assistance.
This really happens sadly too often, and I don’t understand it for the life of me. The negligence and the stupidity of human beings that own pets, just isn’t right. The pets are suffering and are abused, which should be a crime. There should be huge fines and a law against any animal abuse period. They will do it again and again unfortunately and it will be a tragic outcome some day. Poor animals.
It’s about time someone got caught doing this! I see it happening many times! More citizens should report this horrible act when they see it! It’s just pathetic. Good for that citizen!
