Novato
Reckless Driving: On Monday, Novato Police Officers were dispatched to a parking lot above the Hamilton Pool due to a Blue Mustang driving recklessly. See picture on this page. The driver lost control of his car, caused a collision, and went down an embankment near the stairs to Hamilton Pool. Luckily, no one was injured during this incident. Officers investigated the collision, towed the car, and referred a criminal complaint against the driver to the Marin County District Attorney’s Office for reckless driving. Reckless driving is extremely dangerous and affects every driver on the road. If you see a reckless or possibly impaired driver, call 911 to report it. We all share the road together and have an obligation to each other to drive responsibly.
Future Drivers: The 7th grade students at Hamilton School got a first hand look at the dangers of impaired driving. School Resource Officers presented on traffic safety, including pedestrian safety, bicycle safety and impaired driving. Although these students won’t be getting behind the wheel for several years the NPD finds planting the seed to make safe choices starts early. Students got to experience what it feels like to drive impaired by donning fatal vision goggles, which mimic the effects of impairment. The students then had to navigate a small obstacle course and then later completed the same course wearing the goggles. The lesson was very impactful. The NPD appreciates the opportunity to work in partnership with our schools to educate students about personal safety and making good choices. Even the smallest impact of presentations like this may save a life someday. This part of our ongoing commitment to public safety and creating a safer Novato.
