Marin Athletic Foundation honorees

April 27, 2021 by Marin Leave a Comment

The Marin Athletic Foundation on Sunday revealed the honorees for the annual 2021 Eva & Mario Ghilotti Outstanding Student Athlete Awards.

One male and one female student athlete from 12 Marin County schools will be feted during the ceremony on Monday, May 3, at the San Rafael High School stadium at 6 p.m. They are individually recognized “for their excellence and many accomplishments” during their high school careers.

The ceremony is not open to the public, but will be streamed live on social media.

“These students have demonstrated a record of academic success, leadership in the accomplishments of established goals, are a positive role model for other students, and are involved in school and community activities other than athletics and academic areas,” according to a statement from the Marin Athletic Foundation.

The student athletes being recognized in 2021 are:

• Noelle Namba is one of the seniors igniting the Branson’s girls soccer team’s hot start with eight points, three goals and two assists in two games. Namba tallied 16 points with six goals and four assists in 25 games during the 2019-20 season. She entered the 2020-21 season with 42 points, 15 goals and 12 assists in her first three seasons.

Branson boys basketball standout Miles Keeffe has been eager to tip off the much-delayed 2020-21 season after a run at the CIF State Division II Championship came up inches short with an overtime loss to Sacred Heart Prep in the NorCal quarterfinals.

• Marin Academy is represented by lacrosse and water polo standout Georgia Brown and Jacob Young, a star on the Wildcats’ baseball and boys water polo squads. Young, a pitcher, has reportedly committed to Brown University.

• Marin Catholic softball standout Annabel Teperson is headed to Cal next season. Teperson has a chance to make up for lost time this year after playing in just a handful of games in 2020 when the season was cut short by the COVID-19 pandemic. She has a career .390 batting average for the Wildcats, with 58 RBI and 44 runs.

Bennett Goller and his brother, Jack were teammates on the Marin Catholic boys lacrosse squad for two seasons. They will reunite next season when Bennett arrives at Colby College, a NCAA Division III school in Waterville, Maine.

• Novato’s Bianca Bayer has always made a splash with the Hornets’ swim team as a freestyle and backstroke expert. Meanwhile, Mack Carter is making noise on the lacrosse field as the Hornets’ senior captain. Carter is dangerous in the midfield, with a powerful shot.

• Kylie Horstmeyer joined the University of San Diego women’s basketball team as an early enrollee in the winter after a stellar career at Redwood. The 2019 MCAL player of the Year played in eight games with the Toreros in her freshman season.

The Giants’ Hudson Grace paced the field once again on the cross country trail, but also used his passion for running to raise funds to help those in need in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic.

• San Domenico track standouts Vienna Rist and Tobe Ohajunwa are wrapping up their careers with the Panthers in 2021.

• San Marin softball star Lucy Mogan committed to play with UC Santa Barbara next season. Sean Burke has been a three-sport star in baseball, basketball and cross country with the Mustangs.

• Sarah Williams is leading the Bulldogs in her senior season with the girls basketball team. A two-sport standout — and a journalist with the school newspaper — Williams was an MCAL honorable mention with the girls water polo team in 2019.

Acer Cristea, after an MCAL honorable mention last season, is expected to lead the offense for the San Rafael boys soccer team in his senior campaign.

• Track and soccer standout Sophia Calegari and boys soccer standout Miles Crock hope to give the Pirates of San Anselmo’s HS1327 a season to remember in 2021 before they graduate.

• Ella Bogan has been a key player for Tamalpais High School’s field hockey and basketball teams during her career, and she’s also been paving a path for the future as a camp coach and mentor for youth players.

Tucker Bougie has officially committed to play baseball with Cal next season.

• Vivian Johnson’s swing — on both the golf course and the softball diamond — has helped cement her legacy at Terra Linda. She will continue her softball career next season at St. Lawrence University.

Jason Hsu has become the quiet engine for the Terra Linda boys soccer team during his career.

• Soccer player Alejandra Gutierrez and football and basketball standout Misael Gonzalez have been lighting up the fields in West Marin and throughout the Bay Area for Tomales during their high school careers.
