State Indicates Future Changes for Mask Guidance; Still Awaiting Final Updates for Schools
Today, Governor Gavin Newsom, along with the governors of Oregon and Washington, announced the intention to further loosen the State’s mask guidance on March 12. The future changes would not overrule the federal requirement to wear masks on public transit, but it would impact face covering restrictions in school and childcareenvironments. In sum, the Governors are suggesting guidance move from “required” to “recommended.”
California Department of Public Health is continuing to update its guidance for face coverings in schools and other school-based mitigation strategies based on the new CDC framework announced last week. Marin County Public Health has been in alignment with the state’s framework and is waiting to understand the state’s updated school guidance before confirming what changes – if any –will take place in local classrooms. At that point, Marin schools and districts would have the ability to maintain a stricter stance that whatever new policy the state unveils.
Our schools webpage will be updated with new protocols as soon as CDPH’s new guidance is known.
