Recap: Return to School 2022 Public Health Update
In case you missed it, Marin County Office of Education (MCOE) hosted a virtual presentation on January 6 to provide the community with a COVID-19 update. Superintendent of Schools Mary Jane Burke moderated the online event, which provided a summary of case rates, vaccination figures, current information about the Omicron variant, and an update on schools. Public Health Officer Dr. Matt Willis and Deputy Public Health Officer Dr. Lisa Santora were the featured guest speakers for the gathering, which was hosted on Zoom.

FDA Reduces Window for Moderna Booster Eligibility
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced today that it is amending the emergency use authorization (EUA) for the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine. It is recommending that the waiting period between completion of the initial two-dose Moderna vaccine series and a booster dose be reduced from six to five months. The age eligibility will remain the same, at 18 years or older.
Before California implements this new age expansion for Moderna COVID-19 boosters, the Centers for Diseases Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Western States Scientific Safety Review Workgroup (WSSSRW) must conduct their own investigations then approve of the FDA’s recommendation.

Changes for COVID-19-Related Rental Assistance
The County of Marin continues to channel federal and state funding into the hands of local tenants who are on the verge of eviction and to landlords who experienced sudden income losses during the COVID-19 pandemic. More than 1,000 Marin households have received the emergency aid thus far.
While the rental assistance work has been underway since the initiation of the program in February 2021, additional steps are now being implemented to speed up the assessment process and offer residents more transparency.
Beginning Saturday, January 8, all new applicants will be placed on a waitlist. That will allow the program staff to prioritize applicants with incomes below 30% of Marin’s median household income and who have been waiting the longest with unpaid rent. Thirty percent of the median household income in Marin is $38,400 for individuals, $$43,850 for households of two, $49,350 for three, and $54,800 for four. Thus far, more than 74% of program applicants have been those earning less than 30% of the median income.
