Marin mourns passing of Capt. Rick Addicks

April 12, 2024 by Marin 4 Comments

It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our good friend and co-worker Captain Rick Addicks, a dedicated firefighter of the Ross Valley Fire Department. Captain Addicks served the County of Marin with bravery and commitment for over 22 years. He is survived by his wife Kristen Addicks, and his children, Skye and Casey Addicks

Fire Captain Rick Addicks, 55, passed away on April 12, 2024, following a courageous battle against the effects of occupational esophageal cancer for nearly a year. A battle he faced with the same resilience that characterized his firefighting career.

Proper honors have taken place at the time of his passing and all 34 Fire Stations and Administrative Buildings have lowered their flags to half-mast to commemorate Rick’s passing.

Rick began his career as a Stinson Beach Fire Protection District volunteer. Shortly after, he transitioned to the Town of Ross, Ross Valley Fire Department where he moved up the ranks of Engineer and Captain and served on the Marin County Urban Search and Rescue Team.

In addition to being a local hero, Rick was a practicing attorney, co-chair of the Marin Professional Firefighters Behavioral Health team, a leader of the Critical Incident Support Team, and served on the Executive Board of the firefighters’ labor union.

As we mourn the loss of Captain Addicks, we extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time. The passing of Captain Addicks is a profound loss for our firefighting family and the entire community.

We’d kindly ask that the family be granted their privacy during this difficult time and that all questions be directed to Local 1775 at 415-827-5576 or jbagala@iaff1775.org. Letters of condolences may be sent to the Marin Professional Firefighters, IAFF L1775 at PO Box 15, Fairfax, CA 94978.

Information on services will be forthcoming and those wishing to donate in honor of Rick and his family may do so to the “Marin Firefighters Foundation” Non-Profit 501c3 EIN # 88-2709283.

His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him, and his legacy will continue to inspire future generations of firefighters to uphold the noble traditions of service and sacrifice.

I am shocked and saddened to read of Rick’s passing. He was so young, and he was a very special human being.. My heart is crying for his family, and in particular, his mother, Carla, my sister-in-law.
May his spirit comfort you, always.
