Harry Popcock ran it in for the final score for the first half, giving the San Rafael Bulldogs a 41-0 lead against the Albany Cougars. It turned out to be the last score of the game as after the first play of the third quarter, the Cougars quit and walked off the field.

San Rafael

Something happened on the first play of the third quarter of the varsity high school football matchup between the San Rafael Bulldogs and the Albany Cougars. But like the lyrics of Buffalo Springfield’s 60’s song, “For What It’s Worth,” what it was wasn’t exactly clear.

The Cougars left the field behind 41-0. Accusations were made against the officials, published reports said. The long and short of it is the game was called and the Bulldogs took the win. The 2-1 Bulldogs face the 3-0 San Marin Mustangs on Friday (Sept. 24) at San Rafael.

Marin Catholic

Marin’s football power, Marin Catholic of Kentfield, took it on the chin Friday night (Sept. 17) at the hands of the McClymonds Warriors, 33-22. MC is now 3-1 and goes to Antioch to take on the Panthers on Saturday (Sept. 25). There are a lot of excellent prep football teams in the Bay Area. McClymonds is one of them, ranked by the press as the No. 7 prep varsity football team in the Bay area.

Archie Williams

The team formerly known as Drake is now 3-0 in the young prep football season. The Archie Williams Falcons soared high against American of Fremont to post a 37-2 win. It was a lopsided affair with Coach Anthony Jackson liberally playing backups in the second half of the contest.

Archie Williams, formerly known as Drake, travels to take on the winless Richmond Oilers on Friday, Sept. 24.Archi Williams and Richmond have had one common opponent this year in Berean Christian. AWHS beat Berean Christian 27-0. The Oilers lost to Berean Christian 49-0. Should be a cake walk for the Falcons.

Novato

The Novato Hornets varsity football team had their wings pulled off and their stingers removed by the Los Lomas Knights, 49-0. The Knights had two runners go for over 100 years against Novato. Senior Frank Payne ran for 114 yards and Adam Towell posted 134 yards. Novato now takes on Redwood on Saturday (Sept. 25).

Branson

The term “Branson rolls” is getting old, but that’s what the Bulls have done this year. On Friday (Sept. 17) Branson rolled to a 48-0 victory over Crystal Springs Uplands in 8-man football.

Terra Linda

The Terra Linda Trojans marched to West County in Sebastopol for a high school varsity football matchup Saturday (Sept. 18). They forgot to bring one thing: An offense. Sebastopol won the contest 34-0. The Trojans face Tam High School this week. Both teams are 1-2 this year.

Redwood

The 2-0 Redwood Giants travelled to Ukiah on Saturday (Sept. 18) and came up on the short end of a closely fought contest, 17-12. The Giants were coming off a lopsided victory against Galileo Academy the prior week. The 2-1 Giants now face the Novato Hornets on Saturday (Sept. 25)

Tamalpais

Coming off a bye week, the Red-Tailed Hawks of Mill Valley’s Tamalpais High School varsity football team will take on the Terra Linda Trojans on Saturday (Sept. 25) in San Rafael. Tam is 1-2 on the season. The Trojans took their lumps against Ukiah last week.

San Marin

After a bye week, the 3-0 San Marin Mustangs are anxious to get out of the corral and take on the San Rafael Bulldogs on Friday (Sept. 24) in San Rafael. The Bulldogs won a weird contest against the Albany Cougars last week. After jumping out to a 41-0 at half time, the Cougars took the field for one play in the third quarter … and quit. No one is quite sure why, but one of the Bulldog coaching staff was quoted as saying that he hopes the Cougars “get it together.”
