Three of the four Marin teams in postseason varsity football play advanced last weekend.
Powerhouse Marin Catholic smushed Mt. Diablo 66-0, juggernaut San Marin easily downed Hercules 42-6, and Tamalpais squeaked by Petaluma 27-21.
Archie Williams High School found its Cinderella season coming to a pumpkin ending, losing to Del Norte 49-6. AWHS finished the season 7-4 sparking much anticipation that the high school football program formerly known as the Drake Pirates will be returning to glory in future years.
The Wildcats of Marin Catholic surprised no one by taking Mt. Diablo to the woodshed, 66-0. The Wildcats scored 7 TDs in the first half, making it clear they would advance to play in the next round, which will be 1 p.m. Saturday against Tam. The Wildcats and the Red-tailed Hawks squared off a few weeks ago with Marin Catholic coming away with a win, 41-0.
The San Marin Mustangs, which always carry with them throngs of loyal fans from Novato, meanwhile, will fill the stands when they return home this Friday to face No. 4 St. Bernard’s, the 7-4 team out of Eureka.
