Mill Valley elementary schools upgraded

September 13, 2022 by Marin Leave a Comment

This is a press release to Marinscope Community Newspapers from the Mill Valley School District:

The start of a new school year is always an exciting and momentous time for our youth, but this year the students at Mill Valley School District returned to find impressive upgrades!

All MVSD elementary schools now have much needed shade structures for students to shelter under, as well as new playground equipment, designed to safely engage students, at Tam Valley and the Middle School. The construction projects were underway throughout the whole summer, after the carefully orchestrated  operations of design, Request for Proposals (RFP), and a public bid process before construction could begin.

MVSD will now be able to use the experience from the highly successful execution of these projects as a springboard into a bigger, and more complex, set of initiatives, which will be funded by the successful Measure G bond of $194 million.

The election to approve the bond was preceded by a long series of steps including an extremely in depth Facility Master Plan, the Board decision to move forward with placing the bond on the ballot, a strong campaign committee, and finally, the community of Mill Valley voting to approve it. But there is still much ahead!

Before any projects can begin, the MVSD must establish a Citizens’ Bond Oversight Committee (CBOC) from members of the community, in compliance with Ed. Code, who will convene public meetings to provide oversight and report on the proper expenditure of bond revenues.   At the September 15, 2022, board meeting, Trustees will be asked to approve Resolution and By Laws so that this process can begin.

Running concurrently, will be the District’s obligation to ensure that any projects are correctly placed out for bid once the Board approves any projects. The projects will be prioritized from the Facilities Master Plan, and are all in alignment with our Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP) Priority 1: Balanced Learners.

Our Facility Master Plan has outlined the next steps for bond funds at each school site, including:

·         Edna Maguire Elementary School: Additional water fountains and landscape plumbing infrastructure improvements.

·         Old Mill Elementary School: Additional water fountains and playground improvements.

·         Park Elementary School: Additional water fountains and roofing improvements.

·         Strawberry Point Elementary School:  Additional water fountains and plumbing infrastructure.

·         Tamalpais Valley Elementary School: Additional water fountains and roofing improvements.

·         Mill Valley Middle School: Main campus facility planning and design.
