House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s husband, Paul, was attacked by an intruder with a hammer at his San Francisco home early Friday morning.

Nancy Pelosi was not at home at the time. Paul, 82, was injured and hospitalized. He is expected to make a full recovery.

San Francisco Police Chief William Scott identified the assailant as 42-year-old David DePape. He is in custody and is charged with multiple crimes, including attempted homicide, assault with deadly weapon and elder abuse. Motivation for the attack is under investigation.

San Francisco’s crime rate has soared over the last several years. This case, however, appears to be a targeted attack based on preliminary reports from several news organizations.
