Bruce Ackerman accepted the gavel on Dec. 2 as the new Mayor of Fairfax. Ackerman, who was elected to a second Town Council term in November, replaces former Mayor Renee Goddard, who continued a young tradition of declaring December “Gratitude Month” and asking council members what they are grateful for. The Town Council’s tradition of “Gratitude Month” began in 2019.

Stephanie Hellman takes over as vice mayor. The Council rotates the positions of mayor and vice mayor every December.

The Town Council also welcomed newcomer Chance Cutrano, who was sworn in for his first term. Incumbent Barbara Coler begins her third term. Cutrano replaces outgoing council member John Reed.

The agenda for the next Fairfax Town Council special meeting isn’t just garbage, although that is the main topic. The Town Council is scheduled to meet virtually on Wednesday, Dec. 16, at 7 p.m. to consider an increase to garbage collection fees. The staff report will be available by December 12 at www.townoffairfax.org.
