On Sept. 11, at 12:20 a.m., Novato Police Officers responded to the Loop Gas Station at 2085 Novato Boulevard on the report of an armed robbery. It was reported that a male suspect entered the Loop shortly after midnight, brandished a large kitchen knife and demanded money from the store clerk.
While the suspect was speaking to the clerk behind the counter, a second store clerk attempted to interrupt the robbery and a scuffle ensued. The suspect was able to break free from the clerk, took cash from the register and fled the store on foot. The clerk sustained minor injuries during the scuffle.
The Novato Police Department Investigations Division assumed this investigation. A surveillance image of the suspect was disseminated to officers at the start of their shift on Friday morning. A School Resource Officer recognized the suspect and his clothing from a prior contact. At 10:55 a.m., a 17-year-old male suspect was located and arrested outside of his home in North Novato.
A search warrant was sought and obtained for the suspect’s residence to search for evidence related to this investigation. Evidence was located that linked the suspect to the robbery. The weapon used in the robbery and assault has been recovered. The 17-year-old suspect was booked into Marin County Juvenile Hall for armed robbery and assault with a deadly weapon.
