A third candidate has thrown his hat into the ring to replace state Assemblyman Marc Levine in the June 7 primary.
Steve Schwartz of Sebastopol jumped into the race which already features current Marin County Supervisor Damon Connolly and Sara Aminzadeh, a lawyer and a member of the California Coastal Commission.
Schwartz founded the Interfaith Sustainable Food Collaborative and California Farm-Link.
“Friends, I am proud to announce that I am running for State Assembly to fill the District10 seat vacated by Marc Levine. I humbly ask for your endorsement, financial support, and your volunteer efforts,” Schwartz said on his Facebook page.
“I know that I have the experience and passion necessary to represent the diverse communities in Marin and Sonoma Counties,” he said, addition that “as Chief of Staff for two Assemblymembers, I have a track record of bringing a wide range of stakeholders together to get things done in Sacramento.”
Schwartz also said that his experience as an organic farmer will inform his service, if elected. “I have dedicated my life to public service and advancing clean and sustainable environmental practices in our community.”
I founded California FarmLink and Interfaith Sustainable Food Collaborative to ensure that everyone, regardless of background, can access healthy food, and entrepreneurs can access land and affordable financing. Serving as the President of the Gravenstein Union School District Board, I fought for equity for students and to ensure teachers received excellent compensation and benefits.
Levine is in his fifth term representing the district, but elected to not run for re-election and take on Ricardo Lara as the state insurance commissioner. Levine was approaching being term limited had he run for a sixth term.
Levine and Lara are both Democrats.
