NPR’s big blind spot

April 15, 2024 by Marin Leave a Comment

Properly Subversive/Sherman R. Frederick

Everybody I’ve ever known who worked at National Public Radio came from the left side of the political aisle. I’m not exaggerating. Every single person.

I considered them friends. And good news people when reporting on topics in their wheelhouse of expertise. But, if I had to bet the life of my dog, Gidget, on how they’d vote in any particular election, I’d put my money on the biggest leftist on the ballot.

So, when Uri Berliner wrote an op-ed for The Free Press entitled: “I’ve Been at NPR for 25 Years. Here’s How We Lost America’s Trust” it reinforced my personal observations on the news organization. I was pleasantly surprised to read of such criticism from within.

What didn’t surprise me, however, was the “how dare you” reaction from the new boss of NPR.

Katherine Maher, who took the helm of NPR only last month, responded to Berliner’s criticism by completely missing the point.
