The San Rafael Pacifics are still holding out hope for the 2020 season, although it appears their Pecos League debut is in doubt.
San Rafael, the 2019 Pacific Association champion, signed a deal in mid-March to join the Pecos League, which has two divisions in two time zones. The Pacifics are scheduled to play a 64-game season in a division with the Martinez Sturgeon, Pittsburg Anchors, Monterey Amberjacks, Wasco Reserve and Bakersfield Train Robbers.
The Pecos League’s Mountain Division features teams from Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Kansas and Texas.
The start of the 2020 season was scheduled to open the first week of June, but might have to be pushed back to September or even October, according to Pecos League commissioner Andrew Dunn.
“There’s been no word from California yet as to what the restrictions might be in the coming weeks or months,” Dunn said. “That’s what we’re all waiting to see. We want to get the season in. We want to keep the tradition alive.”
Meanwhile, the Pacific Association, with teams in Napa, Sonoma, Vallejo and Fairfield, has announced it will postpone the start of its 2020 season.
