On October 29, 2025, San Rafael Police and Fire personnel responded to a tragic collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian at the intersection of Second Street and A Street in Downtown San Rafael.

Officers arrived to find the pedestrian unconscious in the roadway and immediately began life-saving efforts. Despite the first responders’ efforts, unfortunately, the individual did not survive and was pronounced deceased at the scene. SRPD’s Major Accident Investigation Team is conducting a forensic investigation into this accident.

At 10:26 AM, SRPD Dispatch began receiving emergency calls that a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Second Street and A Street in Downtown San Rafael.

Officers were in the area when the call was broadcast and arrived in seconds. The officer found the struck pedestrian down in the roadway and immediately began life-saving measures. SRFD also arrived on the scene and pronounced the pedestrian deceased.

SRPD’s Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) also responded to the scene and began a forensic investigation to determine the cause. According to a preliminary investigation, the pedestrian was crossing Second Street in the designated crosswalk at the time of the accident.

Second Street was closed to eastbound traffic at the intersection with B Street. A Street between First Street and Third Street was also closed in both directions. SRPD broadcast the road closure on Nixle and across multiple social media platforms, which included information about utilizing alternate routes and expecting significant delays through Downtown San Rafael. The streets were reopened at 1:30 PM.

The driver of the vehicle is cooperating with investigators. Drugs and alcohol are not believed to be a factor in this collision.

The San Rafael Police Department understands that this is a tragic incident, and we extend our condolences to the family and friends of the deceased. The Marin County Coroner’s Office is the authorized agency to release the name of the decedent once they complete their notification process, which includes notifying the next of kin.

The investigation into this collision is expected to take several months to complete.
