The Marin County Probation Department, in partnership with the Marin County Sheriff’s Office, conducted a DUI operation March 13 to ensure individuals were in compliance with the terms and conditions of their supervised probation.
The operation resulted in one arrest for a positive blood-alcohol concentration (BAC) and failure to adhere to treatment directives.
DUI operations are imperative because they directly protect public safety, strengthen community trust, and reinforce organizational credibility core responsibilities for law enforcement and public service agencies like Probation, where the goal is to reduce recidivism while prioritizing individual growth and accountability.
Results of the operation included:
- 39 individuals targeted
- 25 unannounced field contacts made
- 9 contact attempts conducted
- 19 searches completed
- 20 drug tests administered
- 3 ignition interlock devices verified
- 2 violations identified
- 1 arrest made for a positive BAC and failure to adhere to treatment directives (an attempt was made to transport the individual to a detoxification facility, but the individual refused)
“Accountability is not about punishment,” said Marlon Washington, Marin County Chief Probation Officer and Interim Assistant County Executive. “It’s about creating opportunities for change. Operations like these reinforce our commitment to public safety while ensuring individuals have the structure and support needed to make better choices and build a more stable future.”
The Probation Department remains dedicated to providing support to the justice-involved population, victims of crime, and the diverse communities within Marin County.
