The Rotary Club of Ignacio Foundation, a 501c3 not for profit organization, recently provided nearly $50,000 in grants for community and international projects. The Foundation monies come from a combination of locally club-raised funds from members, special events, and sponsors, Rotary District 5150 funds, and Rotary International funds.

Ten thousand dollars in college scholarships for local graduating high school students were granted; $4,500 was spent on used computer equipment which was updated and shipped to the Philippines for disadvantaged school children; and $4,500 was spent on several environmental related projects including landscape revitalization at the College of Marin IVC campus, tools for fire fuel reduction work and support for the environmental groups, Ride and Drive Clean and Resilient Neighborhoods.

Other local projects included donating $1,650 with other Rotary Clubs to distribute picture dictionaries to all Novato 3rd graders (matched by the two Novato Rotary Clubs); and $1,000 to the local Relay for Life American Cancer Society effort (matched by $10,000-$15,000 pledged by Club members). Grants totaling $1,500 were provided to support hygiene kits in Uganda.

The Rotary Club of Ignacio also supported Rotary’s Number One Humanitarian goal of eradicating Polio around the world. For every dollar raised locally, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation matches it with two dollars. The local Foundation gives thousands of dollars to this cause each year, with only two countries left where polio is still present.

The members of the Rotary Club of Ignacio conducted a very successful fundraiser among its members to support the humanitarian work in Ukraine.  Funds in the amount of $10,000 were provided to the Rotary Klub Warszara Wilanow. In addition, nearly $9,000 was sent to The Rotary International Foundation’s Disaster Relief Fund which will be used in Ukraine.
