
The Rotary Club of Ignacio dedicated a memorial bench in the name of the late Bill Kelly in a special ceremony Saturday in Downtown Novato.
Rotarians and members of the Kelly family were there to speak on behalf of Mr. Kelly and his contributions to the community.
Bill Kelly was a local architect and long-time member of the Rotary Club of Ignacio serving as President of the Club from 1986-87. As an architect, he designed several buildings downtown including the office building which sits behind the 6-foot, green bench at 750 Grant Avenue.
He also designed the downtown building located at 804 Grant Avenue and restored the Dr. Insomniac restaurant building. He served on the Novato Architectural Committee for 12 years and was voted Novato Citizen of the Year in 1996.
As a member of the Rotary Club of Ignacio, he served on the membership committee, the Monte Carlo Night committee, and the Rotary District 5150 International Scholarship Committee.
Bill Kelly passed away October 4, 2018. A brass plaque depicting his service for the community was added to the bench to preserve his memory, according to memorial bench committee members Larry Curtis, Bill Doughty, Gary Butler, Fred Phifer, and Jennifer Goldfinger.
