Seventeen Novato teachers have been selected for a luncheon in recognition of their efforts engaging students to do their best effort in learning social and academic skills. School Principals and family were invited as each teacher was presented with a certificate and monetary gift.
Rotarian David Price Jones and Gary Bramon initiated the program 21 years ago. The Rotary Club has continuously honored Novato teachers awarding nearly 1 million dollars.
At the presentation Past President Chairman Frank Bruno introduced Novato School Superintendent Jan La Torre Derby who introduced Marin County District Superintendent Mary Jane Burke who introduced recipient teachers from pre-K to High School, while describing their special strengths in the educational field.
In combination with the teachers, Rotarians honored retiring Superintendent Burke elected for seven, four-year terms as Marin County District Superintendent of 33,825 students in 18 School Districts; Novato School District being the largest with approximately 5,126 students followed by Tamalpais Union and San Rafael.
The citizens of Novato joined Rotary Members in Novato Rotary Clubs annual Teacher Car Wash organized by Chairman John Cuttrufelli purchasing Car Wash tickets in addition to receiving generous tips as Rotary Club members, friends and family dried each car as a fundraiser dedicated to the Annual Teacher Recognition ceremony. John Cuttrufelli added generously to the Car Wash experience preparing homemade sourdough pizza, cooked in a portable oven on site, adding to the Party atmosphere.
