This is a post on the social media sight for the Marin Democratic Socialists of America:
On Tuesday the 9th, the San Anselmo Town Council voted 3-2 to officially adopt a rent stabilization ordinance. This historic win comes after more than two years of grassroots organizing, and makes San Anselmo the third town in Marin to pass some form of rent control. But here’s the bad news: a group of disgruntled landlords—many of whom do not even live in San Anselmo—have already begun collecting petition signatures to trigger a referendum aimed at repealing the new law. These landlords have already begun collecting signatures at The Coffee Roastery in downtown San Anselmo, and they will likely have signature gatherers at the coffee shop, circulating around downtown, and going door-to-door over the next month. It’s critical that you know (and that you tell your friends, family, and neighbors) NOT to sign any rent control petition in San Anselmo over the next thirty days. We fully expect the landlords to attempt to deceive people by misrepresenting what they are trying to do. But let’s be clear: this is an attempt to overturn San Anselmo’s new rent control law. We’ll make sure to keep you posted on future developments, but for now, please spread the word NOT to sign the rent control petition being circulated downtown. Onward together!

They came to my house not realizing I am a renter. I did not say a word back. When I closed the door my only thought was “what a snake”.
