Former San Anselmo Councilman John Wright was feted last week for his many years of public service. |
Brian Colbert is the town’s new mayor. At the Town Council meeting last Tuesday (Dec. 8), outgoing Councilmember John Wright was recognized for his many years of public service. But it took a while. The meeting was gavelled into order by Mayor Ford Greene and one of the first orders of businesses was to heap praise on Councilmember John Wright, who lost his re-election bid and was attending his last meeting. But like a lot of virtual meetings in Marin, the mute button and technical issues gummed up the presentation. “John, can you hear us now,” Greene said. “He’s on mute,” someone said. “I am not on mute,” Wright said. And so it went until Councilman Wright excused himself, went off camera, and returned. He said he replaced his “Mac” with his “normal” computer. The meeting then proceeded. Presentations included recognition from U.S. Congressman Jared Huffman, State Sen. Mike McGuire, State Assemblyman Marc Levine, Marin County Supervisor Katie Rice, along with recognition from his fellow Councilmembers and from Town staff. Prior to his seven years of service on the Town Council, Wright served for 12 years on the Tamalpais Union High School District’s Board of Trustees. Before that role, he served for five years as a Trustee on the Ross Valley School District’s Board. He is a cofounder of the Ross Valley Healthy Community Collaborative, which has grown into the Marin Healthy Youth Partnerships. The effort is led by local school administrators, parents and government officials to address underage substance use in the community. David P. Donery, Town Manager, said “A special thanks goes out to John’s wife, Ruth, who has supported John throughout his 24-plus years of public service. Thank you, John, for everything you’ve done for our community, and everything that you’ll no doubt do in the future.” Also at the meeting, San Anselmo’s newly elected Councilmember, Eileen Burke, joined the San Anselmo Town Council on Tuesday evening. Burke edged out Wright for a spot on the Council. She is a life-long San Anselmo resident, a parent to two local high school students, and a community volunteer with Age Friendly San Anselmo. Also, the council appointed Brian Colbert as mayor and Alexis Fineman as vice mayor. |
