
| Brandon Phipps will soon be joining the City of Sausalito staff as the Director of Community and Economic Development. In his new role, Brandon will manage a team of full-time and contract staff who oversee private and public building projects in accordance with the General Plan, the Municipal Code, the Zoning Ordinance, and state and local construction codes. He will also lead the City’s efforts to retain and attract businesses that meet the needs of Sausalito residents and visitors. Brandon holds a master’s degree from the London School of Economics and Political Science and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Southern California. Most recently, Brandon worked for the City of Daly City in the Department of Economic and Community Development. During his time in Daly City, he negotiated development agreements, prepared grant applications for economic development projects, and oversaw the creation of a licensing process for commercial cannabis businesses, among other responsibilities. Previous to Daly City, Brandon was a vice president with the Kosmont Companies, where he developed economic development strategic plans, downtown revitalization plans, sustainable communities strategies, and retail attraction and retention strategies for California cities. Of his new position, Brandon says, “My aim is to support Sausalito in maintaining its unique sense of place while addressing the challenges that California cities are facing today, including the digitalization of retail, housing shortages, climate change, and issues related to equity and access.” Born and raised in Berkeley, California, Brandon currently makes his home in the Cole Valley neighborhood of San Francisco. In his time outside of work, he enjoys cooking, hiking, cycling, yoga, and watching the Warriors. He has enjoyed visiting Sausalito’s waterfront since he was a kid. Brandon’s first day with the City of Sausalito will be Monday, October 17. |
