June 3, 2024 by Marin Leave a Comment

Sonoma County Sheriff’s Department:

Last night our steadfast search and rescue volunteers were deployed to two search’s and helped locate both victims!

At around 7:30pm deputies responded to rural Healdsburg for the report of missing person along the Russian River. The caller reported his girlfriend was missing after they spent the day on the beach. Deputies began searching for the women, while search and rescue responded to take over the search. The 28 year old women and her two dogs were located safely around 11pm after getting turned around on their way to the car.

Around 9pm, SCSO dispatch received reports of another missing person in the Occidental area. It was reported a 62 year old area resident had gone out for a hike around 2pm and had not returned. Deputies and Cotati Police @cpd_dolly responded to the area and began searching. Our search and rescue team was then redeployed and began their search in the Occidental area for the missing hiker. Our team of volunteers and deputies searched through the night and into today.

At about 12pm today the hiker was located. The hiker was found alive with minor injuries by Search and Rescue Personnel. Henry 1, who aided in the search as well, conducted a long line rescue and transported the hiker to the command post.

The hiker is in good spirits and sustained minor injuries. They were transported to an area hospital for treatment.

Teams from Marin County, Napa County, Mendocino County, Contra Costa County, San Mateo County, Occidental Fire Department, Bay Area Mountain Rescue, and California Rescue Dog Association all responded to aid in the search.

We want to thank all our allied agencies, and non-government organizations for sending us help when we needed it

Lastly we want to recognize our tremendous Search and Rescue volunteers for all their hard work and dedication. These two folks, and many more, are shinning examples of all your hard work paid off. @marinsheriff@napasheriff@mendosheriff@smcsheriff@cocosheriff@cardasearchdogs @bamru @occidental_fire @cotatipolicedepartment
