
Fairfax library improvement
Improvements to the Fairfax Library are set to begin May 15, resulting in a closure of the branch through May 24. The Marin County Free Library Facility at 2097 Sir Francis Drake Boulevard will be brought up to code for smoke detection and fire suppression systems.
The project is being managed by the Marin County Department of Public Works. All told, the project is estimated to cost $850,000 and is funded through the Marin County Free Library’s Measure A.
Dipsea Hall of Fame
The Dipsea Hall of Fame induction dinner and scholarship ceremony on Friday, June 9, in Sausalito will be one for the ages.
Megan McGowan Sawyer, who won back-to-back Dipsea races before she was a teenager, and the late Harry Cordellos of Novato, who competed in more than a dozen Dipseas though blind up to the age of 70, will be the newest Dipsea HOF inductees. They will be honored at the Dipsea HOF dinner ceremony, which has moved to Spinnaker’s restaurant in Sausalito.
The program begins with a no-host cocktail hour at 6 p.m. followed by dinner at 7 p.m. and the awards ceremony. In addition to the HOF induction, the Dipsea Race Foundation will award – scholarships to local high school seniors.

Novato Concerts on the Green
Novato Concerts on the Green will start up in June with Dan Martin and Norma Rocksteady Band on June 2. The concerts are held at 6 p.m. at Novato Civic Green, 901 Sherman Ave. Bring your own picnic blankets and lawn chairs. Outside food is OK. Dogs are not permitted.
Music fest
The Mill Valley Chamber‘s Mill Valley Music Festival is set for this weekend, noon to 7 p.m. each day. There are a wide variety of tickets available and can be purchased at MillValleyMusicFest.com.
Hamilton Community Pool open
Novato’s Hamilton Community Pool (203 El Bonito Drive) will reopen on Saturday, May 27 offering swim instruction, deep water exercise, and recreational use for the 2023 season. The pool is also home to aa water play structure with a slide and lots of water spray, great for those hot summer days.

Cop shop Open House
The Novato Police Department’s Open House will take place Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the police station, 909 Machin Avenue.
Bring family, friends and neighbors down to the station to enjoy giveaways, goodies, demonstrations by specialty units, equipment showcases, activities for kids and more. This event is a part of Novato School Fuel’s “Tour of Novato”.
Novato Village Happy hour
Novato Village will hold a “happy hour” on May 25 from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. at Las Guitarras Restaurant, 1017 Reichert Ave., Novato. Drop in to meet lively friends, enjoy flowing conversations and find out about upcoming events at Novato Village. RSVP not required.
Sausalito’s ‘fair’ roads
A new report on the condition of Sausalito’s roads as commissioned by the Metropolitan Transportation Commission shows the seaside town’s roads are in “fair” condition. The MTC rated Sausalito’s roads as 58 on a scale of 1 to 100. That puts the town’s 26 miles of roads in “fair” condition.
Dog Fest Cancelled
The 2023 Wag Dog Festival scheduled for Sausalito on May 6 was canceled due to lack of vendor support. The event, sponsored by the city’s parks & rec department, will be back next year.
