Members of a new group calling itself the “Friends of Rush Creek” protested in front of a fundraiser for Marin County Board of Supervisor Eric Lucan last Friday.
As Lucan held a $75 birthday fundraiser for himself, the group made their voices heard on what they said was inaction by Lucan and Marin County on the 2-mile long homeless encampment allowed to grow on Binford Road.
“Despite repeated vehicle fires, arrests and at least one tragic drug overdose death, Mr. Lucan and his fellow Supervisors have failed to address the humanitarian and ecological disaster that is Binford Road,” the group said in a press release.
“We are very sympathetic to the plight of the homeless, but they must be moved away from the fragile wetlands.” said Toni Shroyer, a local activist and member of Friends of Rush Creek.
