A suspect in an automobile break-in on Napa Street in the early morning hours of Thursday, March 14 was arrested after leading officers from multiple jurisdictions on a car chase along Highway 101 between Sausalito and Larkspur.
Officers of the Sausalito Police Department began the pursuit after encountering a dark sedan driving with its headlights off in the area where the break-in had been reported.
The suspect vehicle led officers through residential streets to northbound 101, where the chase was joined by a Marin Sheriff deputy. Increasingly reckless and wrong-way driving by the vehicle led to the pursuit being called off in the vicinity of the Richmond Bridge exit in Larkspur.
Shortly thereafter, the suspect vehicle crashed on northbound 101 above Corte Madera Creek. Two suspects were believed to have exited the vehicle and fled on foot.
The suspects remained at large until the Central Marin Police received a report of a suspicious individual in the marsh area of Corte Madera. Upon investigation, they identified the person as a suspect from the earlier incident and detained him.
During the search of the suspect vehicle, officers discovered identifying documents possibly belonging to the suspects, along with a loaded and unregistered polymer handgun, a sizable quantity of suspected psilocybin mushrooms, suspected Xanax, and paraphernalia associated with methamphetamine use.
The Sausalito Police Department is actively pursuing leads to identify and locate the other individual involved in the incident.
