This report is from Marin County Search and Rescue, posted on social media on Monday, Feb. 26:
At 3:50 PM this afternoon, the Central Marin Police Department requested a SAR mission for a missing 78-year old female with likely undiagnosed dementia.
She was last seen at 10:00AM Saturday with the family waiting 24 hours to report her missing, unaware that protocol ended decades ago. Fifty Marin SAR members joined CMPD officers, Sheriff’s deputies, Central Marin Fire Department Fire crews, Central Marin CERT volunteers, the Marin County Water Rescue Team, Fire Boat Tiburon and CHP – Golden Gate Division Air Operations H-30 in covering a wide area around her home.
At approximately 6PM, a Marin SAR K9 Team located the missing subject through a K9 alert. She was out of view in the brush, standing against a fence. She had been missing for 32 hours. She was medically evaluated by fire crews and transported to the hospital. She was in generally good condition.
There was excellent coordination among all agencies involved, utilizing CalTopo to manage the search with live tracking of teams in the field.
