Special to Marinscope
In these difficult times, it is good to find ways to celebrate — as long as it’s safe. While the Novato City Birthday Party can’t be celebrated in the usual way, the nonprofit Paint the Town Red committee has developed a virtual way to commemorate the city’s 61st birthday and bring the community together.
A celebration will be broadcast on Novato Community Television at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, January 22, 2021, and there are plans to upload it to YouTube following the event.
As is tradition, the Novato Citizen of the Year announcement will be made during the event, but this year’s honoree will be videoed as he or she is notified of the award.
Also, a new award is planned for this year. The committee would like to recognize a Novato resident or business owner for services to the community during this difficult COVID-19 period. Anyone may suggest a nominee and details can be found at www.paintthetownred.org.
The recipient of this Community Pandemic Assistance Award will also be announced during the virtual event.
The January 22 celebration will include musical entertainment by local bands and highlight local restaurants that have been associated with “Taste of Novato,” the array of food available at previous celebrations. The Novato Chamber Business of the Year, Police Department Employee of the Year and Fire District Employee of the Year announcements will also be featured.
All event information is available at www.paintthetownred.org.
